Happy New Year

In Japan, while Western zodiac is hardly used, Chinese zodiac is quite popular. Each year has its animal, and this year is the year of the mouse.
The difference between Japan and China in this regard is that Japan uses the same date for the new year as the Western world, whereas China has its own new year, that is why a person might be born in the year of one animal according to Chinese zodiac, and another animal according to the Japanese version.
