“At least I told you honestly!”【正直に言っただけマシでしょ】

私わたしはいつも子こどもたちに、「外そとから帰かえったら手てを洗あらいなさい。」「トイレのあとは手て洗あらって。」と言いっています。いつもしっかり洗あらったかチェックはしていないのですが、子こどもたちは一応いちおう洗面所せんめんじょに行いきます。

ある日ひ、ねこがトイレのあとに手てを洗あらいに行いきました。そして何なにを思おもったのか、

ねこ:「てんちゃんと急いそいで遊あそびたいときは、水みずでしか手て洗あらってないよ。」
と言いってきました。

私わたし:「ちゃんとハンドソープで洗あらってよ。」

ねこ:「正直しょうじきに言いっただけマシでしょ！」

ねこは賢かしこいので、今いまなら怒おこられないぞ！というタイミングを見み計はからって、自分じぶんの悪事あくじを話はなしてきます。

「正直しょうじきに言いっただけマシでしょ！」

そう言いわれたら、何なにも言いい返かえせませんでした。

I always tell the kids to wash their hands when they come home after playing outside and after they use the toilet. I don’t always check if they properly washed their hands, but they do go to the sink.

One day, Neko went to wash her hands after using the toilet. Then, I don’t know what she was thinking but she said:

“When I want to quickly go and play with Ten, I only wash my hands with water!”.

Me: “Hey, use soap to wash your hands!”

Neko: “Well, at least I told you honestly, didn’t I?”

Neko is smart, so she makes sure to choose the best moment to confess to her sins without getting in trouble. When she tells me “At least I told you honestly” I can’t really say anything.

REMARKS

Most Japanese houses have a separate washroom, referred to as 洗面所　せんめんじょ, where you will usually find a sink for washing hands and brushing teeth and a washing machine. It is most commonly located next to the actual bathroom, and most people will take their clothes off in the washroom before getting into the bathroom.
